**WordPress Discussion & Tips by John**
How many plugins are too many in a WordPress install? This question floats all over and there is the misconception that you should code in your stuff vs a plugin. I have had sites with as few as 5 plugins have issues and I have sites with as many as 147 plugins installed and it runs fine and fast.

The number of plugins is not important since every plugin add functionality that you need and it is easier to add it as a plugin vs adding it as hard code.

The problem comes in when you install poorly coded plugin so what is the difference between a poorly coded plugin and poorly coded hard code?? Well with a poorly coded plugin you debugging is allot easier..

plus as things change in WordPress any hard code becomes harder to keep up to date.
