On Friday, April 28, 2017, the USA Science & Engineering Festival – the largest and only national science festival – will be holding its annual X-STEM Symposium in Washington DC. They are happy to, once again, extend FREE attendance to homeschool families!
The X-STEM Extreme STEM Symposium – presented by the U.S. Department of Defense – is a unique conference for kids where some of our nation’s most respected professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics will speak to middle through high school students in a “TED-style” format.
X-STEM is a unique opportunity to get your students up close and personal with leading STEM role models such as:

* Emily Calandrelli – producer and host of FOX’s Xploration Outer Space and correspondent on Bill Nye Saves the World
* Marcus Eriksen – marine plastics pollution expert and founder of the 5 Gyres Institute
* Corrie Moreau – evolutionary biologist at Chicago´s renowned Field Museum who studies the science of ants
* Greg Johnson – former NASA astronaut and head of the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS)
* Jill Heinerth – underwater cave explorer
* Patrick Harker – President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, engineer and STEM advocate
* Eric Brown – FDA microbiologist using cutting-edge technology to safeguard the U.S. food supply
* Charles Orgbon, III – change-maker and founder of the youth-run environmental organization Greening Forward

and many other STEM luminaries. Find out more about them on their website at www.UsaScienceFestival.org.
Advance Registration is required! Use the discount code X-STEM7 (that’s case sensitive!) to bring your kids at no cost (the cost to attend is usually $20/person)! Space is limited so register today!

Nintendo Switch launches without any streaming services which seems like a major faux-pas to me. For many families, gaming consoles serve more than a singular purpose. Our Wii is also how we watch Netflix at home. Having no streaming services available at launch (a feature that’s built into $79 Blu-ray players) is a huge miss for me. If I had $300 to spend on a console (and let’s face it, you’re going to spend closer to $500 because you’ll want to buy games and additional accessories) I wouldn’t buy one that did connect to at least Netflix. We don’t have cable or satellite TV so besides over-the-air channels, streaming services are the major way we consume content. Am I alone here?
