The song this week is called Beatle City.....it was commissioned by
Merseyside County Council back in the day as a promotional song for Liverpool....the title was given to me but what I didn't want to do was cash in on The Beatles....like a lot of people were doing at the time (and still are)....so I composed the song using their song titles and riffs....it
went on to a vinyl 45 and sold in the tourist centres and libraries etc.....it sold very well but it wasn't from the heart as I have never been a massive Beatles fan....and have always thought there is more to Liverpool that the fab four.

And on the subject of The Beatles I watched a programme on the making of The Magical Mystery Tour...I remember it coming out when the Beatles were going strong....the film was received with mixed reviews...I found it very interesting how when you reach a certain stage of fame you can get away with anything...I have never been a massive Beatles fan...liked a lot of their stuff but also wasn't fussy on a lot of it....however I just didn't get the mystery tour...I appreciate they
were making it up as they went along but to me it was like the kings new clothes...or Tracy Emin's unmade bed....in other words rubbish...with people finding the "meaning" of what they
were looking at...mind you I was never into flower power and love and peace man at the actual time...and all that Marharishi twoddle was pathetic...but once the ball gets rolling it keeps on rolling.

I watched a discussion on the TV about the rearing of dogs to eat....this takes place in one of the eastern countries where eating dog meat is part of their culture....they had a panel consisting of chef Anthony Worral Thompson...some woman who was a vegan...and some
woman who was a dog lover....the point Thompson was trying to make was there is no difference eating a dog than eating a pig or a sheep or a cow....the poor fellow never got a look in....Mrs Dog Lover went off on one....prattling on over everyone how it was WRONG to eat
man's best friend...she never shut up for the whole session....what was required was a large piece of duck tape straight over her yapping mouth......this happens a lot these days with political discussions where everyone is shouting at the same time...which achieves absolutely
nothing.....I would suggest ONE mike with a stop watch attached to each person?.....then no doubt we would have people trying to grab the mike and fights breaking out....at least it would give us something to watch.

John Prescott was making a point about the abolition of the word "lord"......I couldn't agree more....and I find the awarding of knighthoods to pop stars and and sports stars totally ridiculous.....a "knight" is someone attached to the military and defends his country as defined
in the Oxford dictionary.....I can just see Sir Rod Stewart or Sir Mick Jagger doing that....these guys are simply doing a JOB to fill their own pockets....that's it........a soldier is a KNIGHT as he or she puts their life on the line protecting us from our enemies...it's called bravery....and in my
opinion every one of them should be knighted........by all means give achievers awards but make them to do with what they do....I like Sir Mo Farrah but a "knight of the realm".??...It won't be long before we have to bow to Sir Ant and Dec....and I had to laugh when Ed Sheeran got
presented with something from Prince Charles and he shook his hand but touched Charlie on the arm with his other hand....which raised eyebrows as this is NOT protocol !!!!....however it seemed O.K. a while back when Gerri Halliwell pinched Charles' bum.....oh that's right she's
female so that makes it O.K.

We have a children's hospice here on Wirral called Claire House named after a little local girl who sadly passed away several years ago from an incurable illness....the hospice is run by donations and does an amazing job making a difference to youngsters lives...I am part of a
