Velanche Presents Urban Landscapes – Show 16.06 w/Prince & Billy Paul Tributes

May 03, 2016

On the morning of Thursday April 21, the news was out that artist Prince was found dead in his Paisley Park recording studios. As of now, the cause of his death is under investigation. There have been so many Prince tributes left and right, and I was fortunate to have taken part in a couple of local Prince tributes, except to say that his music can truly bring generations of folks on the floor, and touch them in profound ways, and has. His talent is vast, his personality independent, and his legend firmly planted. You'll hear his music, as well as some of those he's produced.

A few days later, soul and jazz singer Billy Paul followed Prince, passing away at age 80 at his home in New Jersey. He will always be known by the masses for that one song that he'll be forever known for, which is, of course, "Me & Mrs. Jones," but he has put out some great musical input over the years, some ending up being too political for radio stations to touch. While he's never been able to replicate the song's success, he's endured through decades of performances and recordings. Much of what I'll share were from his days at Philly International in the 1970s, and I hope you enjoy the picks.

Please have a listen, and savor the music and memories of them both.

Peace.
