This Week in Lotus 109 - Looking forward to Connect 2013

January 09, 2013

Recorded on 7th January 2013. We meet with Mat Newman, Per Lausten and Bill Malchisky to discuss Connect 2013 sessions, announcements, tips, social events and hidden treasures, the recent openNTF contest, the Notes/Domino 9 beta and new features in Kudos Badges.  All that and more on This week in Lotus!

One little note - despite everyone's best efforts, Bill's audio was a little 'murky'.  We've done our best but can't clean it up as much as we'd like, so please bear with us during the show - hopefully it doesn't spoil your listening pleasure too much.

Connect 2013
  • Just 20 days to go...
  • Who’s got sessions?
  • Sounds as though the Lotusphere section of the agenda is much the same as previously?

Announcements and trends.  What do we think we’ll hear about? What social events do we know are taking place? Tips for first timers at the event Read Andy Donaldson’s *essential* guide to (ah-hem) IBM Connect Hidden TreasuresWhat else? Kudos Badges now supports mobile Connections app
Tips:
Darren:

KeePass - an open source and hence free password database and creator. Works with Windows, Mac, iOS, etc and can be synced with DropBox or HTTP(S) (the password DB is highly encrypted, you’re safe)
Per:

1. IBM Domino Designer 9 beta: Lots of improvements for developers
2. Try Intrapages, created by Thomas Adrian - available on OpenNTF (demo at intrapages.com). Winners of the 4th OpenNTF contest
Mat:

Keep your eye out on PlanetLotus / matnewman.com for the Unofficial, totally unsupported and non-affiliated ConnectOsphere session database.
Bill:

1. Connect 2013 - Rather than spend lots of time at the Dolphin fountain waiting for your party on Wednesday evening, either meet at your hotel and grab the bus there, or just meet your party in-front of the gate to save time getting to the park
2. Notes - Alternate way to create folders on-the-fly using the Windows folder construct. Example from ->Send and File -> Create New Folder -> type the tree on the fly. e.g. Accounts\TWiL will create automatically the TWiL folder object under your Accounts branch. Saves a lot of time with long folder lists. Note of caution: if the “Accounts” branch does not exist, you can expand it within your mail file, but you can’t place a message there until you explicitly create it. I found this to be a nice time-saver that I’ve used for many years and hope you enjoy it.

Soccer Saturday
GoSIM Card (mobile calls and data for international attendees)
LinuxFest IV - Thursday during lunch; bring your box lunch, then go straight to Ask the Developers
Stuart:

Book your Mears shuttle before travelling to Connect, else arrange shared cab.
