The Music Transmission
Episode 3 - Jake Arnott
"Funny, fast, witty and brutal. Whenever he's got a new book out I drop everything, knowing that the next couple of hours are going to be pure gang land bliss. Gawd bless 'im."
DAVID BOWIE
My guest on The Music Transmission is British author Jake Arnott. Novel writing can be a lonely process. We get right into the gritty details of creative rituals, the idea of plot balance and finding that elusive world that exists somewhere between the avant-garde and the utterly trashy.
Best known for his crime series The Long Firm trilogy, adapted as an award-winning BBC prime-time drama, Jake Arnott's other novels include Johnny Come Home, The Devil's Paintbrush, The House of Rumour, The Visa Affair and The Fatal Tree. He also writes for Doctor Who - his 2014 episode 'A Handful Of Stardust' a firm favourite with Whovians worldwide.
Jake Arnott and myself have also just embarked on the epic adventure of writing an opera. Stay tuned for more on that later on. This episode of The Music Transmission was recorded on a blustery day at Jake's atmospheric seafront home on the south coast of England.
