Episode SGS-0030 – Tayde Aburto: “The Power of One”
Hello and welcome to Episode 30 of The Stevie G. Success Show: The #1 Personal Achievement Podcast, where we bring you guest interviews designed to help you live more, play more, and rock the world.
On today’s show I get to interview a Social Entrepreneur whose love for the individual and small business owner led him to create a new and unique Chamber of Commerce which serves exclusively small businesses. His name is Tayde Aburto, and his company is the Hispanic Chamber of E-Commerce, and you will learn more about that in a few minutes.
Today’s topic the Power of One was sparked by a story I heard again just a few days ago about a young boy walking along a beach shore where what appeared to be starfish had washed onto the shore. A man walking by asked the boy what he thought he was doing and the boy replied “throwing them back into the ocean where they might have a chance to live.” Looking around him the man said “what difference will it make boy, you are just wasting your time. There are far too many for you to throw back. “The boy picked up a starfish tossed it into the ocean, and said…“it made a difference to that one.”
This story teaches the lesson that we should not forego doing god simply because there is too much good to be done. If we can help make a difference in the life of one person, one animal, one plant, we should go ahead and do it and not be restrained because there are so many other people, things, or causes which also need our help.
In thinking about that story, I began thinking about situations where a single person stood alone to create change, or to confront oppression and injustice. Such as Rosa Parks an American Civil Rights Activist who in 1955 was riding a bus in Montgomery Alabama and refused to give up her seat to a White person.  Most of us probably remember the story of Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China where in 1989 during a period of student protests against the government, one man was photographed as he stood unarmed in front of a line of tanks that were attempting to move onto the demonstrators.
We often only hear about these stories if they make the news, but there are so many others which never make the news and consequently we may never hear of people like Andre Angel, who while taking his son to a food shelter to teach his son compassion, was himself moved to the point where he put all of his money and energy into launching Tango Tab, an App which allows restaurants to offer meal discounts to diners, and when a diner accepts the deal, it also delivers a meal to a local food bank.
Or there is Dr. David Vanderpool who had a vision that he could provide medical assistance to those in developing nations, formed an organization named Mobile Medical Disaster Relief.  Or there is a guy in Boone, NC named Doc Hendley a bar and nightclub owner who started an organization named Wine to Water whose mission is to get fresh drinking water to areas in the world that do not have it.
Or there is Laurabeth and Mark Messimer of Santa Cruz, California, who formed an organization named Las Sonrisas, to provide transitional housing for returning female veteran’s to help them resolve PTSD and Military Sexual Trauma. There’s Jacob Tobar and Melissa Powelson, founders of Get Real, an educational initiative being offered to public schools around the nation to help teens develop self-esteem and eliminate teen suicide. There’s Mina Trinity Chang, CEO of Linking the World, an organization which provides education, financial literacy training, and humanitarian aid to developing countries.
There are many people around the world who have done things alone or began causes which were joined by others and these people and causes are positively affecting the lives of millions. So it makes you wonder… what is it about these people that lead them to create these big movements. What do they have that you and
