I Love You, Now Die: Why Hasn’t Borderline Personality Disorder Been Mentioned?

July 26, 2019

I Love You, Now Die has one glaring problem: no one has mentioned the potential element of Borderline Personality Disorder.

HBO’s docuseries I Love You, Now Die explores the real-life trial of Michelle Carter, the teenager who was tried in court over texting her boyfriend convincing him to follow through with his plan to take his own life. The docuseries begs the question: can one person be held responsible for the death by suicide of another?

In today's podcast, our panel of Shrinks discusses teen suicide, the impact of social media on mental health, as well as the psychology of Michelle Carter, including a description of Borderline Personality Disorder.

I was captivated... It helped me flesh this out in a more human way as opposed to the sensationalized media portrayal of the trial.

Being Human
Every week our panel of Shrinks breaks down trending topics of psychology in the news that we call Being Human.

Legalizing pot does not appear to encourage teen use and might actually discourage it, a study published Monday in JAMA Pediatrics suggests. Teen marijuana use didn’t change much after medical marijuana was legalized, they found.

Our panel of Shrinks breaks down their thoughts on these findings.
