The Context of White Supremacy presents the sixth study session on Rebecca Skloot's non-fiction debut, The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks. Henrietta Lacks was a black mother of five children who was afflicted with cervical cancer; she died in 1951. Suspected Racists in White lab coats pilfered genetic material from her without permission and have used her cells - code-named HeLa - to create enormous amounts of vaccines, cancer medications, in vitro fertilization, gene mapping and cloning - mostly to help Whites. Neither Ms. Lacks or her black family members received recompense for this probably act of "medical apartheid;" her relatives were not told of this theft until two decades after her death. Suspected Race Scientists continued their sleazy conduct by conducting research on her children - also without permission. Last week's segment offered further evidence of Skloot's probable Racist deflections to black pathology and uncouth, uneducated, criminal depictions of black people who do no warrant sympathy. White doctors were described as gods; black people - much like Michael Brown, Jr. - were branded devils. A profound portion of the text included the Lacks family being told that they should be proud of Henrietta's contribution to science. "I'm black and I'm proud."
