Currently they have 13 different books covering special needs such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Epilepsy, Cerebral Palsy, and Diabetes. The inspiration for the company came from the co-founder's daughter Maya who was born with a rare metabolic condition called Propionic Acidemia.

Maya's body does not process protein properly. When Maya was getting ready to go to school, Heather needed to find a way to keep her healthy, happy, and safe so she created a picture book to explain Maya's special need to her classmates. The book was extremely helpful to the teacher, classmates, and Maya.

It was at that moment Heather, and cofounder Kate, realized they could help millions of other children with special needs. Someone Special Books was born.
