The Debate over Gun Control in the United States

February 15, 2019

This week marked one year since the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. According to the latest national NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist Poll, the urgency for Congress to act on gun control measures has waned, but consensus exists on specific legislative proposals to curb such violence. The survey, which reveals notable racial differences, also presents attitudes toward school safety, opinions of the Parkland students and their impact on the gun debate, and views of the NRA. We discuss it all on this week’s episode of Poll Hub.

Then, we take a look to 2020. No, we’re not discussing the horse race but the changing demographic landscape and what it means for the next presidential electorate. Our thanks to Pew Research Center for laying the groundwork.

Plus, how’s the weather? We have a little fun compliments of the HuffPost/YouGov poll!

About Poll Hub

Poll Hub goes behind the science to explain how polling works, what polls really show, and what the numbers really mean. Poll Hub is produced by The Marist College Institute for Public Opinion, home of America’s leading independent college public opinion poll, The Marist Poll. Lee Miringoff (Director of The Marist College Institute for Public Opinion), Barbara Carvalho (Director of The Marist Poll), and Jay DeDapper (Director of Innovation at The Marist Poll) dig deep to give you a look at the inner workings of polls and what they tell us about our world, our country, and ourselves.
