* Spotify's winning the battle - enterprise podcast host [Voxnest has published an Apple vs Spotify comparison](https://blog.voxnest.com/apple-vs-spotify-june-2019/) for June 2019, comparing usage on the two podcast apps. Since May, Spotify has become the most popular of the two apps in the Netherlands, Germany and Bulgaria. (Earlier this year, our Editor [made some suggestions](https://medium.com/@JamesCridland/podcasting-what-apple-should-do-next-986ab5fd1026) about how Apple could regain their place.)

* Ten hours after we published yesterday, Apple [emailed all podcasters](https://podnews.net/press-release/apple-enhanced) highlighting that their new podcast categories are now live. As we reported, they advised that the category menu (in Apple Podcasts) "may be temporarily removed". Category browsing remains unavailable in apps when we went to press, to the consternation of some podcast publishers.
* Acast, [Buzzsprout](https://www.buzzsprout.com/blog/apple-podcast-categories), Transistor, [Podbean](https://blog.podbean.com/2019/07/23/new-apple-podcasts-categories-updated-in-podbean/), Captivate and Megaphone are some of the publishers that have switched on the new Apple podcast categories for their users. * [Spotify has purchased a music podcast](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/spotify-acquires-music-podcast-500-1226517). A nine month-old podcast [The 500 with Josh Adam Meyers](https://podnews.net/podcast/1440000749) will become a Spotify Original; it'll continue to be available on all platforms. (Libsyn)

* [There's a new #1 podcast advertiser in the US](https://medium.com/@magellanblog/june-top-15-betterhelp-moves-into-the-1-spot-and-rothys-makes-the-list-for-the-first-time-f33b224ae721), according to Magellan. The top three is #3 Geico, #2 ZipRecruiter, and #1 BetterHelp. BetterHelp is an online counselling service.

* Adswizz has announced that their new software release [fully supports the RAD podcast measurement framework](https://podnews.net/press-release/adswizz-rad). Remote Audio Data (RAD), the output of NPR working with 30 companies, is a method for sharing listening metrics from podcast applications back to publishers.

* [YPod](https://ypod.cymru/) is a list of podcasts in the Welsh language, born of frustration that you can't filter by language in any podcast app. It also links to Welsh-language radio. Chwarae teg!

* [Amplifi Media and Skyview Networks have partnered](https://podnews.net/press-release/skyview-amplifi) to produce branded podcasts and custom audio solutions. Skyview will give clients access to over 5,000 radio stations to help promote their branded podcast or smart speaker skill.
