Shovel Knight unearths heavy metal in launch trailer

June 23, 2014

With just days left standing between us and the release of Shovel Knight, we at Pixelitis have been chomping at the bit to finally get our eyes on both the game and Patrick’s review.

Since both won’t be reaching our eyeballs until at least 72 hours from now, we’re just going to have to make do with the launch trailer that released earlier today.

For those that don’t remember, Shovel Knight is a Kickstarter funded “love letter to 8 bits” created by Yacht Club Games (YCG), a fledgling indie development company formed by ex-Wayforward employees.

At the time the game’s Kickstarter campaign began last March, YCG was hoping to raise $75,000 to fund the game’s brand of “shovel justice.” Thirty days later, however, they managed to amass more than four times that goal, yielding more than $311,000 in funding.

Since then, the game has been adapted to the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS along with the originally planned PC, Mac and Linux releases.

Though many people around the world backed the game, YCG said this week’s release on 3DS and the Wii U is currently only for North American users. Those looking to dig into the game on PC or Steam, however, will be able to do so right away no matter where they are.

Shovel Knight will officially release this Thursday, June 26. Check out the release trailer after the break or watch this 60 FPS version.
