July 20, 2015

Steve Arvey got his beginning in the Blues in Florida during his college years.  He and his band ended up backing Bo Diddley for a few years.  He then returned to Chicago where he backed musicians such as Hubert Sumlin, Jimmy Rogers, and others.  He eventually ended up back in Florida and now performs as a solo artist and with his band The Delta Swamp Rats. Steve and I will examine his journey and listen to his music.

Roy Rogers is one of the preeminent slide guitarists performing the Blues today.  He began playing in a band at age 13 and has not stopped performing since then.  He received his first Handy Award nomination in 1985 and has played with John Lee Hooker for 4 years in the 80’s.  Throughout the years he has contributed music to movies and TV, performed with Miles Davis, Taj Mahal and Norton Buffalo among others. His new album is entitled Into The Wild Blue and Roy and I will talk about his long career and the new music.

Lisa Mann began her time in West Virginia, but now calls Portland and the Northwest her home.  She is a talented bass guitar player as shown by her 2015 Blues Music Award Win for Instrumentalist Bass, and is also a fabulous vocalist.  Her new album is entitled Move On and Lisa and I will talk about her career and where she is heading.

Ted Drozdowski returns with his new Scissormen album, Love & Life. The album will be released on July 31st and we will have a chance to talk with Ted about recording this collection of stories about old bluesmen and coal miners, which was recorded in a tent down a dirt road in the wood on top of a mountain in Pasquo, TN.
