Sleeping Witch and Saturn

November 26, 2018

Sleeping Witch and Saturn is a relatively new indie rock band in Pittsburgh. Leader Matt Vituccio started writing when he was pretty young.

“When I was 10 or 11 I started getting melodies in my head. Things would just come, so I decided I would just mess around with them. When I was a little older, I really got into Nirvana. That made me realize that you don’t have to be an amazing musicians to write good music, so I just started doing that on my own.”

Vituccio, also in the local band Brightside, started getting inspired by darker rock groups like Bauhaus, Joy Division and The Velvet Underground. He started playing music that resonated with that particular aesthetic and formed a band around that sound.

“I wanted a name that I knew if you searched online, it would be the only thing that came up. I knew I wanted the band to have a lot to do with the occult. At the time I was researching the occult a lot. I mean, I always am, but at that specific time I was deep in this thing. So, I knew that I wanted the word “witch” in it. I’m a Capricorn and Capricorn is ruled by Saturn.”

Sleeping Witch and Saturn have a few new songs out and should have more new music next year. More at their Bandcamp.
