The Smith Mundt Modernization Act & MSM - The Legalized Deception Of The American People

February 14, 2018

Welcome to The Daily Wrap Up, a concise show dedicated to bringing you the most relevant independent news, as we see it, from the last 24 hours (2/13/18).
I try not to always begin by saying, “LOOK the MSM is propaganda,” yet it continues to baffle me just how obvious it has become. With all that is going on, at home and abroad, one side’s main story — their headline front page news — is still about White House staffer allegations and unsubstantiated accusations, and just endless back and forth conjecture and opinion. All with war and crime and corruption bursting at the seams. While the other side is still (as the good establishment propagandists they are) forcefully telling their viewers “not to fall for Kim’s Olympic tricks” — deviously disguised peace talks — and really driving home the point that North Korea is a “true threat,” despite all the evidence to the contrary. They also always fail to mention the real history behind both why North Korea is hesitant to trust the US and why historically it’s laughably hypocritical for the US to point the finger at anyone else for being a threat. Again, all this is presented as the most important news of the day, when in fact, it is not news at all. It’s simply government talking points, being presented as news.
Everyone should take a moment to read the article, “Lifting Of US Propaganda Ban Gives New Meaning To Old Song,” that does a great job of rehashing a point I have been discussing since 2013. Propaganda is being presented to the public as news, even lies. This was once illegal, and is now completely legal due to the NDAA amendment in 2013 — the Smith-Mundt Modernization Act.

The original Smith-Mundt Act made it illegal to disseminate propaganda within the US. Regardless, we know the government did it anyway, with projects like Operation Mockingbird, where the CIA infiltrated major news outlets to manipulate perception, precisely what that act was supposed to make illegal. Nothing ever stops the CIA from breaking the law, as we have made abundantly clear, intelligence agencies are never held accountable.
Yet, up until this amendment in 2013, it was only legal to spread propaganda abroad, something all government still do today. However, a fact that few are aware of, because mainstream media and the government make a point of not revealing it to you, is that it’s now written into law within the NDAA that the government can literally create false new stories, actual fake news, the same manipulative propaganda that the government uses on those outside the US, but now at home, all under the guise that the lie itself serves a “national interest.”
