Dad Vigil, Day Nine: As this podcast rebroadcast airs, dear old Dad is undergoing a laminectomy to his lower back to drain and remove the spinal abscess arising from the spinal meningitis.  A minor, routine procedure, or so the neurologist told me, but of course, for a patient in his eighties, there's no such thing as a routine procedure.  But the ceiling of what antibiotics can do by themselves has been reached, and in the mean time, laying in bed 24/7 isn't doing his musculature any good.  So under the knife he's going.
