Steven Lee pres TalkBack - The Deeper I Go (Cloud 1)

February 20, 2013

They say, the ‘speed of sound’ is the distance travelled during a unit of time by a sound wave. At 23 years old, Steven Lee defined the this definition and was already in the doors and creating chaos at the worlds most recognized dance label, Strictly Rhythm. When some couldn’t get a look inside the infamous Strictly offices, Lee suddenly had a full time job, knew every big DJ in the world, had mixed his first compilation and had his first Lee Cabrera remix blaring weekly on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show. Less than a year later, he had the #1 Record on the Planet with his first single Lee Cabrera “Shake It”. Still recognized as one of the most influential dance records in the last decade (Pete Tong) “Shake It” pushed Lee’s “Speed of Sound” to an entirely new level. Some artists wait their entire lives to be nominated for “Record of the Year” and have their songs performed Live at the World Music Awards or travel and play hundreds of shows a year at the best venues in the world or have over 50 remixes to your name, let alone doing it all in his first (3) years in the business! “It was definitely a quick entry into the dance music world. I didn’t have much time to dream about what was happening, as it was my reality so quickly” explains Lee.

His tenacious passion to continue pushing the envelope is what he see’s as the key ingredient in staying on top and staying successful. “There is so much competition out there, so much talent, and the game has changed tremendously. You can’t chase, you definitely have to find your place and attack from all angles”. Now fully focused on building his brands globally with his “Wasted Youth & Blackwolves” parties regularly seen all over Asia, Brazil, Europe, and the US, and trademarking his successful aliases TalkBack & Blackwolves with the signature Steven Lee classic sound, while cementing his FaderPro.com company by teaching music production to the masses he simply says, “the biggest steps have yet to be taken” which we see as modestly astonishing. “I think its all about bridging the huge gap between all these genres at the moment and just producing & playing the best music out there. Thats what I pursue in the studio, and thats how I’ve always performed.”

2013 has already proven deadly and diverse with collaborations with Tara McDonald, Thomas Gold, DJ PP, Carl Kennedy, Electric Youth, Erica Rhone, Thee Cool Cats, Blackwolves, Alison Valentine, Seasick Mama, Lee-andMe and remixes of Hot Natured, Miguel, Layo & Bushwaka, Cassie, Janet Jackson, College & Kavinsky. Residencies include Bangkok, Ibiza, NYC, and Brazil and to add more into his reputar, you can now read Steven Lee’s regular EDM feature in his new VIBE Magazine column or if you want to dive a little deeper in to the several worlds of Steven Lee, you can tune into on his new blog at stevenleemusic.tumblr.com. We kindly asked him to forget not to breathe! (SIAM 2 NIGHT-ASIA)
