GameTime Cleveland 145: Coaching Carousel

January 10, 2013
Summary:

The new Browns regime is finding that its not as easy to hire a new coach as they originally thought. After missing out last week on their top 3 choices, the Haslam/Banner team is parading lots of 2nd tier candidates into Berea in the hopes of finding their man.

Hosts: Mike Kresic, Tom Kresic

Running Time:
40:43

1Q: Browns coaching search misfires out of the gate

  • Chip Kelly pulled the football out from Charlie Brown for the 2nd year in a row. Last year, it was Tampa. This year, Cleveland, Philly and Buffalo fell victim to Kelly’s game.
  • Penn State Coach Bill O’Brien went back to the Nittany Lions.
  • Syracuse Coach Doug Marrone was snagged by Buffalo.
  • Nick Saban won’t leave Alabama.

2Q: Will the Browns fall in love with a coach?

  • After missing out on their first group of candidates, can they find someone that fits all of the criteria they laid out for a new coach? (“a strong leader, who’s tough because this is a tough business, but also is smart, very organized, has great attention to detail and is aggressiveâ€)
  • Now we’re talking to CFL Coach Marc Trestman, CAR OC Rob Chudzinski, CIN DC Mike Zimmer, and a host of others.
  • Where and when will the Browns find their man?

3Q: AFC Divisional Playoff round

  • (3) Texans at (2) Patriots

    • A rematch of earlier blowout in the regular season
    • Houston peaked too early and lacks confidence now
    • NE is a much stronger foe than the Bengals
    • Mike & Tom pick New England to repeat their dominance over Houston

  • (4) Ravens at (1) Broncos

    • We just can’t root for Baltimore
    • But the Broncos are too strong this year anyway and are clearly the better team
    • Mike & Tom pick Denver

4Q: NFC Divisional Playoff round

  • (3) Packers at (2) 49ers

    • Will the Packers get a discount double check?
    • Mike and Tom like Green Bay

  • (5) Seahawks at (1) Falcons

    • Can Atlanta overcome their early exits in the playoffs of late?
    • Can Seattle win two on the road on the East Coast?
    • Tom likes Seattle to keep Atlanta on a playoff losing streak.
    • Mike thinks Atlanta wants to prove its critics wrong
