EPISODE 345 - Early Childhood Development & Attachment Conflicts

November 08, 2013

For Beyond 50's "Natural Healing" talks, listen to an interview with Julie Valenti of the Wisdom and Recovery Wellness Center. She'll talk about the neurological wiring that forms during our childhood - specifically focusing on memory and the hormonal baselines that gets created (hard wired) by our family environment. As infants, our survival depends on the ability to attach and when that attachment is compromised in any way, a set of stress (fight or flight) hormones get activated. Once hard-wired by that hormonal activity, the brain memorized that in which it can survive and we literally recreate similar dynamics in all our future relationships. Because the brains main purpose is to keep the organism alive....change is seen as risky. This then results in adult attachment dynamics and conflicts, similar to those one had as a child. Therefore setting one up to continue to reenact dysfunctional relationships in most area of our lives and especially in intimate/bonded relationships.
