Tressa Montalvo ht_mom_twins_tk_130218_wblog1

Discussion about a woman who had two sets of identical twins on the same day.

A Texas mother had a one-in-70-million kind of Valentine’s Day this year when she gave birth to two sets of identical twin boys, a Houston hospital announced on Monday.

The four brothers were delivered at 31 weeks to Tressa Montalvo, 36, via Cesarean section at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas in Houston, according to a news release from the hospital.

Tressa and Manuel Montalvo Jr. were not using any fertility drugs and had just hoped for a little brother or sister for their 2-year-old son, Memphis, according to the release.

“We planned the pregnancy – I guess we just succeeded a little too much!” said Tressa Montalvo, quoted in the release.

When Montalvo was 10 weeks pregnant, her physician told her she was having twins, and on a subsequent visit, the doctor detected a third heartbeat. The Montalvos were later informed they were having four babies – not quadruplets but two sets of twins.

Three rare things had to happen in order for this to occur naturally: 1) She had to ovulate two eggs instead of one. 2) The first egg had to split, creating the first set of identical twins. 3) The second egg had to split, creating the second set of identical twins.
There are a lot more multiple births because of the use of fertility treatment technology.
Didn’t we talk about whether twins, triplets, etc. get mixed up after birth on a previous show?
Discussion about checking the babies’ fingerprints against their birth certificate to see if they got mixed up while growing up.
Discussion about fingerprints and whether they are really unique to each individual.
Discussion about a pic online that said if aliens from 65 million light years away looked at us, they would see dinosaurs.
Discussion about the state of Mississippi finally ratifying the 13th Amendment to

the Constitution. It’s obviously more symbolic than anything else.

The 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which abolished slavery, was ratified in 1865. Lawmakers in Mississippi, however, only got around to officially ratifying the amendment last month — 148 years later — thanks to the movie “Lincoln.”

The state’s historical oversight came to light after Mississippi resident Ranjan Batra saw the Steven Spielberg-directed film last November, the Clarion-Ledger reports.

After watching the film, which depicts the political fight to pass the 13th Amendment, Batra did some research. He learned that the amendment was ratified after three-fourths of the states backed it in December 1865. Four remaining states all eventually ratified the amendment — except for Mississippi. Mississippi voted to ratify the amendment in 1995 but failed to make it official by notifying the U.S. Archivist.

Discussion about the recent push to limit or ban abortions. We saw Mississippi’s only abortion clinic under fire, now the Arkansas state senate recently approved a measure to limit abortions:

The Republican-controlled Arkansas state Senate approved a measure on Monday to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy except in the case of rape, incest or to save the mother’s life.

The Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act passed the Senate, 25-7, with amendments that allowed for the exemptions in the case of rape or incest. An earlier version of the bill that passed the Republican-controlled House allowed exemptions only for pregnancies that threatened the mother’s life.

The bill, which shortens the existing limit of 25 weeks, now returns to the House for consideration of the Senate amendment.

Why are people content to tell others what to do with their bodies?
Discussion about whether the fetus is entitled to share the mother’s body during pregnancy, versus the notion that the mother can do as she wishes with her body.

Nicolaus Copernicus

Discussion about today’s Google Doodle, which is in honor of Nicolaus Copernicus. It shows the solar system with the planets around the sun in the center. He was supposedly the first to say that the sun was the center of the solar system.
Discussion about Marco Rubio raising over $100K by selling water after his much talked about swig of water during the response to Obama’s State of the Union address.
Discussion about professionals and the media messing up grassroots-type memes.
Discussion about the new video meme craze over the dance “The Harlem Shake.” People make videos like the ones below:

What takes the fun out of it is when media professionals basically take over the meme with their own marketing ploys.

Huffington Post also held a contest of the best Chicago Harlem Shake videos.
Discussion about other Internet memes, like planking.
There were a lot of artistic planking pictures.
Discussion about yesterday being President’s Day.
Discussion about the bill introduced in Congress to form a commission on reparations:

To acknowledge the fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality, and inhumanity of slavery in the United States and the 13 American colonies between 1619 and 1865 and to establish a commission to examine the institution of slavery, subsequently de jure and de facto racial and economic discrimination against African-Americans, and the impact of these forces on living African-Americans, to make recommendations to the Congress on appropriate remedies, and for other purposes.

Why form a Congressional commission instead of having an independent commission?
Discussion about when it is appropriate to get the government to do something on behalf of the interests of people–forcing them.
We should also know that corporations will find a way to pervert the intentions of laws that may force them to act in the best interest of the people. Nevertheless, we will be moving in the right direction.
Heit & Cheri reveal their connection to porn.
The porn star Cherokee “D’Ass” re-tweeted one of Axiom Amnesia’s tweet related to Rick Santorum.
