Welcome back to another episode of ApexThis podcast. I’m your host Mark and I’m back with another quick episode about what’s been in the news and things you should keep your eye on in the world of podcasting. First up…
Buttercast
Buttercast is an audio processing platform that aims to make the lives of podcasters easier. By uploading your podcast to the service it will perform editing tasks such as adjusting your volume. Future features include reducing silence and background noise. The service starts off free for up to 5 episodes for one podcast and jumps to $75 per month for an unlimited amount of podcasts and an unlimited number of episodes. Buttercast also has a podcast in its namesake as well as a blog that shares podcasting tips. I can see more automated software services such as this aiming to make podcasting easier for podcasters but also compete for businesses that perform these editing services for podcasters.
StreamGuys
StreamGuys, a content delivery and streaming provider. has a new service, called SGrecast, that converts video and live streamed content into podcasts. This service allows generation of a podcast, or additional side content, within minutes along with creation of itunes compatible RSS feeds and a whole host of other services.
Podcast Consumer 2016
Edison Research conducted a survey in early 2016 to explore Americans use of digital platforms and new media. In the research is a breakdown of how Americans consume podcasts. For example, 21% have listened to a podcast in the last month. That number drops to 13% for those that listened to a podcast in the last week. You can find all this and more in this episodes show notes on ApexThis.com.
Podcast Networks
Former CEO of Fox International Channels, Hernan Lopez, leaving all of that behind and starting his very own podcast network, Wondery. With nearly 12 million monthly downloads, Hernan has reached 5 figure income from ad-revenue. Looking at the future of podcasts, Hernan stated in a Forbes interview, that he is really thrilled for Wondery to be a part of it.
Apple Podcasts
Apple has rebranded their iTunes Podcasts to Apple Podcasts. This comes on the back of Eddy Cue, VP of Internet Software and Services, stating that Apple is working on new podcast features.
It will be interesting to see what Apple comes up. As we all know, podcast discovery and sharing is certainly in need of technological improvement.
