Governor John DeJongh was originally scheduled to give his State of the Territory Address this evening. Due Senate President Ron Russell asked the Governor to delay the State of the Territory Address and the Governor agreed.  No new date yet.

Here is another thought about the shutdown of our oil refinery. We are hurting but in Venezuela, the state-run Petróleos de Venezuela company has lost its major customer for its hard-to-place heavy crude.  HOVENSA also made most of that country’s gasoline. Experts say closing the refinery could also impact the cash flow of the state-owned company. Perhaps the Governor could approach the Venezulian government about reducing the cost of its oil to HOVENSA. It is in their interest to reduce the cost enough to make HOVENSA profitable and keep it open. Perhaps.

Finally it happened.  The Lieutenant Governor’s office began auctioning property on St Croix for failure to pay back taxes. It had been threatened for years. Now it is real. 25 properties were set to be sold but the owners came forward and paid up or arranged a payment plan.  The five properties that were left went on the auction block last week. Now here comes the first St. Thomas property auction  Wednesday and Thursday January 25 and 26. The list of properties for sale is available at www.ltg.gov.vi/ .  Whose land is up for auction? Three properties owned by Rudolfo Brown, one owned by Hector Squi-a-bro, and one each for the the St John Land investment trust, the heirs of H&J Thomas and VIRCO Limited among others. Go read the list. www.ltg.gov.vi
