Guest Bob Smith
Bob grew up on a farm just north of Chatham and, after completing high school, moved to London where he graduated from the Broadcast Journalism program at Fanshawe College.

At his first job at CJBK radio, he was a newscaster and producer of the award-winning public affairs program, ‘Dialogue.’ Bob joined CFPL-TV in 1979 as a reporter. Over the years, he has covered a range of beats including crime, municipal affairs and education. He was also a news editor and producer. The on-air bug soon caught him again, and he anchored a variety of newscasts over the past decade. He was a part-time professor of Broadcast Journalism at Fanshawe College.

Bob is part of a three generation chain of broadcasters. His father, Harold Smith was a long-time Farm Editor at CFCO Radio in Chatham, and his son, Nathan, is News Director/Morning Newscaster at AM 980. Bob's other son, Nik, is a Process Engineer at General Dynamics Land Systems in London. Bob and his wife Debbie made London their home in 1976, and have found it large enough to offer big city amenities, while at the same time retaining a small-town friendliness.

Questions for Bob

What are the biggest changes you see in news gathering and reporting now and when you first started?

What do you think of the role of Twitter and other Social media plays with the media and the general public?

In the age of blogs etc will there still be a role for traditional media?
