This week on The Tipping Point: Mashups

Are mashups the new metaphors– combining rather than comparing unlike things — as a commentary on our culture? How have mashups influenced and changed the whole playground of content that is the internet?

Zeitgeist

Brad looks at the iPad as a mashup.

Feature Story – Thru-You and Mashup Evolution

At music venues and night clubs around the world, disc jockey’s are giving way to a new brand of music performance artist. Mash-up artists (formerly known as DJ’s) use a mixer and at least two music sources to create something entirely knew… a mash-up experience.

This segment features the unbelievable talent of mash-up artist Kutiman who’s work can be seen below or at Thru-You.com. We also had the opportunity to interview Chris Menning from KnowYourMeme.com.

Read From The Web

Were Madlibs the original mashups? Featuring readings from Bob Colby, Rebecca Garnick Ast, and Anita Roy Dobbs. Thanks also to Chris Brogan‘s email newsletter, Behind the Scenes, that we turn into a Madlib.

Our Take

Jim Cosco looks at some of the legal questions brought up by mashed up content.

The Journey

No matter how you put it all together or take it all apart, when it comes to reaching your customers, you need to recognize that they are in the driver’s seat more than ever. But if you are smart with your content, you can provide them with both the keys and the car to drive.

Engagement online is revving up. Are you going to try and play by the old rules or speed up to the new — where there aren’t so many rules. Just you and your potential customers.

Music

We’re proud to feature really great music from talented artists. (This is content marketing by the way.) We hope you like the tracks we pick — if you do, check out their other music.
