“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).
The loudest voices in the aftermath of the mass murder of 26 children and adults at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT put the blame squarely on a lack of gun control in this country. They say less guns will lead to less shootings.
But is that really true? If so, why weren’t there as many spree shootings like this fifty years ago? Guns were readily available then. Could it be that the media and politicians are blaming the wrong culprit and proposing the wrong solutions?
Should we really be surprised when unregenerate people get it wrong? It used to be in America that Christmas was almost universally celebrated for Jesus Christ, the Son of God, being born of a virgin woman to live among us and then later to die for us rather than what it has become today -- materialism, parties, and Santa Claus.
We’re going to take back Christmas this weekend on The Christian Worldview as we discuss the rich meaning of Christ’s incarnation, and how if more people in our society paid heed to that, we would have far less of what took place in Connecticut last week.
