This was a night of mixed emotions. I was happy to have the privilege of being a small part of the last night of the famous, King Eddy‘s Saloon, on 5th and Los Angeles St in Downtown Los Angeles. It’s a place with the type of history that can only exist in a place like Los Angeles. Outside of the amazing celebration and being with good friends and family, it was also very sad. Yet another historic institution carried away by the tides of gentrification. This is the second time a place (RIP Craby Joe’s) that I loved for its honesty and realism has been ripped away in the name of progress. Who knows what the future holds for downtown LA.
This is unedited. Why? Well, I’m very lazy is probably number one…but at the same time, this is what happened, this is the entire night….use the ambient noise and close your eyes and imagine a place in time where people go to live as much as they go to die. This is where people go when they need a drink, in the truest sense. King Eddy’s Saloon…Where no one gives a fuck what your name is. You will live on in my memories. Thank You!
