December 31, 2013

In this episode, host Brandon Carrasco from Startup New Mexico sits down with Scott Maloney. Scott is very much involved in the New Mexico startup community as an entrepreneur, mentor, and advocate. He shares insights into his journey, some ways that he sees the startup community getting stronger, and advice to other entrepreneurs.

As a scientist he brings a unique skill-set to the startup community in New Mexico. This very insightful interview epitomizes the attitude and approach required by entrepreneurs and how a regional community can provide dynamic environment that stimulates business growth. Events like the Startup NM’s “Pitch Fiesta†are making great things happen on the business front for New Mexico.

Scott speaks about the challenges of Albuquerque and Santa Fe, each with a solid talent base that is somewhat buried and the need to expose and communicate that talent. He talks about the cohesiveness of community and the value of the network effect of individuals and organizations working together as a community to grow together by “…recognizing the true value of playing together nicely…”, and to realize that “…when one of us wins, we all win”.

Startup New Mexico is an effort to establish New Mexico as a region within the Startup America Partnership in order to bring together high growth entrepreneurs throughout our state, identify their most pressing needs and begin to address them.

Their Mission:

“Startup New Mexico’s mission is to foster vibrant and successful entrepreneurism across the Land of Enchantment.â€
