The pregame festivities went off without a hitch and both United and Liverpool supporters showed great respect for those who perished at Hillsborough. Patrice Evra and Luis Suarez even managed to put aside their differences and shook hands prior to the match. The match itself was marred by poor officiating as United struggled to a 2-1 victory via van Persie’s penalty kick.
