There’s no need to ban Christmas for fear of offending non-Christians, says Equality South West |
|
Equality South West – the region’s leading equality and human rights body – has been wishing everyone a Happy Christmas and New Year. And if those arbiters of all things that are ‘right on’ say it’s ok to celebrate Christmas, then it jolly well is. Quick, get the Nativity Scene out of the priest hole! Following reports that nurses at a Welsh NHS trust had been told their Christmas party would be cancelled this year due to a mix of economic concerns and questions over the ‘relevance’ of the celebration to ‘some faiths’, Equality South West says there is no need to ban Christmas for fear of offending non-Christians. Everyone can enjoy Christmas and the season of goodwill extends to everyone, whether or not they celebrate Christmas as a religious festival, said Equality South West chief executive Paul Dunn. Paul told the PRSD: “Christmas is an important part of our history and our culture and something everyone can enjoy. We should celebrate the fact that this is a time when people can think about families and friends and not worry about work for a few days.” And to reinforce the non-denominational nature of Christmas, here’s Sarah Silverman: (image: Merry Christmas
