Anthony Steen pays PR guru after the expenses scandal… and claims it on expenses! |
|
Anthony Steen is a gift that keeps on giving… which is rather like him and his expense account. The former Totnes MP, who was embroiled in the expenses scandal, spent nearly £6,000 on ‘press and strategy’ and then claimed it back on expenses! James Macintyre in the New Statesman points out that the ‘payments were made on August 27 last year, several months after Steen brought a public relations disaster on himself’. Anthony made two payments of £1,995.25 to Peter Botting Ltd as an individual, and one of the same amount to the same payee as an expenditure for ‘Agencies etc’. Peter Bottling appears to be some kinda tough-talking PR guru-type. Our ready reckoner makes a grand total of £5,985.75. Check it out yourself on the Parliamentary website, and have a gander at the New Statesman story. This time people’s interest won’t be stirred by ‘jealousy‘ but irony. In the meantime, listen to the hole Anthony dug himself into during the expenses scrutiny, and catch up on a few of our stories about the former MP… • Check out our story when the PRSD’s Professor Of Semantics puts Anthony Steen under her microscope • Totnes MP Anthony Steen only number 10 in Liberal Conspiracy’s top ten Tory ‘out of touch’ gaffes • Devon Tory MP to pay back 10 per cent of expenses
