New balls please! Sony brings Wimbledon to cinemas in 3D |
|
Wimbledon is being served up with extra depth as Sony takes one of the country's superlative sporting events into 3D at selected cinemas around the country – including Torbay's Apollo cinema. Sport is one of the real success stories of 3D, with the technology allowing people to experience the depth, speed and action to the closest thing there is to actually being there. Add that to the live sporting event being beamed straight into cinemas, and it's a prospect more delicious than strawberries and cream. Wimbledon is one of the big hitters in the sporting calendar with every serve, smash, volley and grunt capturing the nation's imagination, and with Wimbeldon in 3D you can watch it with all the atmosphere of the Centre Court to appreciate the prowess of the top sporting stars. According to Maria Sharapova: "Tennis in 3D is an incredible experience." And she plays the sport! She says: "You really get to see the live action, the emotions of the player, the atmosphere, the way the ball hits racket. It's like that front court seat experience." And then there's just the stunning technical achievement. Have a look at what makes Wimbledon in 3D work with this video from the Sony people.
And you never know, you won't be watching any Tim, Dick or Andy, these are the world's sporting stars at the big screen in 3D. We'll leave the last words to Maria Sharapova: "Check out Wimbledon in 3D, live at a cinema near you." (That would be Torbay's Apollo, Maria, but for a full list, pop over to the Wimbledon Sony page and book your spot!)
