The audio picks up at #6 of the nightly Power 9 at 9 countdown on Philadelphia’s WUSL Power 99 FM radio in 1988. Joining regular show host to co-host the countdown was the one and only Flava Flav of Public Enemy. Here’s a rundown of the countdown songs (as recapped by Flav toward the end of this recording):

#9: I Wanna Have Some Fun by Samantha Fox
#8: Dial My Heart by Da Boyz
#7: Everything I Miss At Home by Cherrelle
#6: I Like by Guy
#5: Joy and Pain by Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock
#4: Boys to Men by New Edition
#3: Get Up by Salt-N-Pepa
#2: Superwoman by Karyn White
#1: Roni by Bobby Brown

Jo Jo and Flav take lots of calls and then end the show with the “Dedication Party,” where song dedications are made for the next program after the countdown, The Quiet Storm.

Also featured during this recording are lots of great commercials: Power 99′s Power Max Phase 3 contest, Trident gum, a French fragrance I’ve never heard of, The U.S. Army, Michelob, TV Guide, Oxy 10, Chevrolet Corsica, The Countdown with Walt Baby Love (in a promo that features Gerald Levert), McDonald’s, and a footwear company plugging their latest style “The Snowcat.”
