Last year…

Chris’ Predictions

  • Living story release schedule will slow down, and a move to more permanent content with smaller “throw away†living story elements.
  • We will see our first instanced group content for more that 5 in 2014. (i.e. Raid in an instance, not in the world)
  • To go along with the raid, the capability to form groups larger than 5 will be introduced.
  • There will be a new weapon for each class (and skills to go with it!) introduced. (Not quite wrong but wrong on the date)
  • There will be fractal versions of the Living Story available for play through at player’s convenience.
  • WuvWuv season two will not happen until later in 2014 (after summer)
  • Edge of the Mists will not take off, and players will simply use it as a static staging point for WuvWuv

Celeste’s Predictions

  • More fractals, of things that are not in either gw1 or gw2’s normal purview. perhaps Dessa will be able to focus the mists into the… future! All the way to the year 2000!
  • The feature only release scheduled for early in the year will include raids and improved player housing with a premium area similar to the Royal Pass.
  • In a shocking move, next year’s Jubilee will also be the celebration of Logan and Jennah’s marriage. This will incur my most swift wrath.
  • To replace Scarlet, we’ll finally get to see the Mursaat come into the Human territories. Spoilers: They’re still pissed that we opened the Door of Komalie and let the Titans through.
  • The Inquest will succeed in perfecting a way to harness/utilize the magic of a dragon (I think Primordius is an interesting possibility) and turn one of its lieutenants on the world
  • Due to massive complaints about the Living Story’s poor writing, it will be abandoned and a monthly quality of life update will be the norm between expansions.
  • Legendary armor components will be found within a continent-wide scavenger hunt.

Twitter Predictions

  • Allona – “I predict the next elder dragon we face will be a dragon made of budgies!†for the reason of “It would be terrifying … AND adorable.â€
  • Peter Fries – “I predict that shenanigans will ensueâ€

Who was right last year

  • Peter Fries… and that seems a bit unfair.
  • Celeste was kinda right, in that there is a theory that one of the fractals is a futuristic rata sum.

This year…

Allona’s Predictions

  • Expansion
  • I know they seem to be moving away from underwater content, but I would love to see an underwater city … perhaps Largos!
  • They will never allow mounts in the game
  • New weapons and professions
  • Season one becomes available to replay in a much abbreviated form, with none of the big events or dungeons … more of a playable recap (but with some of the rewards you can’t get in game)
  • Secondary profession options could be added to expand build diversity and weapon options
  • They will make a QoL update that allows you to right click a stack of items to either ‘consume all’ or ‘open all’.

Hunter’s Predictions

  • Expansion announcement imminent. With such a small team working on the living story, the majority of Arenanet have to have been working on something larger for quite some time, at the very least I think we should start hearing about an expansion within the next few months, with a demo at PAX East in March.
  • New zones in the expansion will tend to be a lot like Dry Top and Silverwastes. A much more focused experience where people work together across the zone to accomplish a goal, unlock a raid, trigger a meta event, etc.  No hearts (they’ve said as much). I think they’ll continue to mess with verticality quite a bit, Silverwastes and Dry Top  have a huge amount of space underground and high in the air.  As well I think there will be further zones with a lot of desert in them, desert is a lesser used setting in Guild Wars 2 and I don’t think Arenanet would put together the assets for a desert and only end up using it in two zones.
  • Mounts, because damn it mounts. They’ve shown that they’re willing to have mounts with the witch’s broom, the flying carpet and even mounts with speed boosts like the kite that has a speed boost during the sand storm in dry top. They’re too much of a huge cash cow to completely ignore and there’s no real reason to not have them. Charr have tanks for crying out loud, I think we can have mounts.
  • More uses for ascended gear.  Right now the only reason to have ascended gear at all is the harder difficulty levels in fractals.  I expect them to reward people with ascended gear more often and have more uses for it, perhaps another dungeon that requires ascended gear.
  • Talking ghost of droobert backpack.
  • New legendaries with an expansion, one for each weapon, and new weapons.
  • World boss in silverwastes.

Celeste’s Predictions

  • Ben came up with a rather fantastical idea that the continent of cantha was broken up in a floating island or island chain and that the canthans have been contending with Steve’s minions since/when/if it has awoken.
  • Raids will be introduced following the enthusiastic and popular CDI
  • New weapon for necromancers, definitely. Adding a weapon for each other profession comes out of necessity.
  • Legendary PreCursor treasure hunt will be scrapped completely leading to the drop off of a lot of players that were sticking around hoping that it would be implemented eventually.
  • Full expansion will be announced as the background project that no one was talking about, new race, new profession, and a new dragon awakening. We’ll take care of Mordy in the living story arc (the last bit is the really dicey portion).

Community Predictions

  • @Archaeus8: Ritualists. Cantha. *flails*  Follow up by @tanek_09 Don’t forget the playable tengu.
  • @bargamer says Rytlock becomes first Charr Rit, unites all four factions, becomes Khan-Ur, Pale Tree seeks cure in Cantha.
  • @misforawesome says “I predict the pale tree is going evil, The PT resisted her nature because her dragon was asleep. Now though, injured, she is going to revert.†Also “We will find out what the hell the pale tree is.â€
  • A couple of different predictions were sent in by Spirit, starting with theory involving Hidden Arcana. The dialogue with Ogden at the end of the instance reads:

Magic is life. Without life, there is no magic. The lair has lain empty for several years. It may have been triggered by your life essence. The images it showed you were chosen by your need.

I saw the Master of Peace take an egg.

Fear not. He did not steal it. He was given custody of it.

    By whom?

You know. You witnessed it, didn’t you?

    Not clearly.

Then you’re not meant to know just yet. All things in their time.
  • My prediction is that Mursaat gave the egg to the Master of Peace. We aren’t ascended quite yet (thought I’d bet at least one doughnut that it’s coming) which explains why we couldn’t see who gave it to them. They float and are quite tall which is why the Master of Peace looked above and the egg kind of descended down onto him.
  • Despite fleeing from the dragons during their last uprising, the Mursaat are back from the mists. Their motivations certainly aren’t altruistic, in fact they haven’t even changed – if what Ogden says about “Magic is life and life is magic” holds any sway, it’s likely that powerful and ancient magic users like the Mursaat have realized this, and are attempting to prevent the dragons from consuming the magic in order to preserve themselves.

    Also finally from Spirit.
  •  I think Mursaat will have far reaching story implications for the Living Story obviously, but also likely the story of a new zone or two as we continue into Maguuma.
  • We know one of the last things they were researching (via the early personal story, human with dead parents) was bloodstones, I suspect that’s where the White Mantle of the Silverwastes moved off to.
  • Khaladhen – Anet has made efforts to make Caithe’s skills playable in the recent LW episode (Caithe and the rest of the iconics are a higher tier than the players, like an ascended level). We will eventually face enemies or events requiring ascended equipment and personal power. Rather than add levels, our characters themselves will become ascended. When that happens we can choose to use new ‘ascended’ elite skills that function sort of like a transform or engi kit.
  • Professor Enzo – I would like to predict that Caithe goes over to the Dark Side, but I don’t really think she will. I would also like to predict that we shall feast on Baby Dragon Omelets, but I don’t think that will happen either.

  • Dread Panther – There will be more change.
