February 27, 2014

Celeste and Allona drag people out of Lion’s Arch, wear a tin foil hat for most of the episode and wonder why no one else says gif like we do.

Report from Vigil Keep

Battle For Lion’s Arch

http://youtu.be/a2S5siA_ML4

  • “It’s time to take back Lion’s Arch from Scarlet’s armies on March 4! Battle for Lion’s Arch is the climactic ending to the epic season 1 of the Guild Wars 2 Living World. Don’t miss the chance to change the face of Tyria forever!â€

    • Gather Spinal Blade Blueprint Scraps and Blade Shards.

      • Save your extras. Might sell well after the end of the season.

        • Allona: This never occurred to me! ~runs to pull the pieces out of the guild bank that I put in, like a huge jerk~

    • Make sure you have Endless Quaggan Tonics, especially the Endless Mystery Quaggan Tonics.

      • Nab the endless ones to sell later…hopefully for a profit

    • Get yourself a Selfless or Thoughtless Potion, or both!

      • Allona: Meh.

    • Don’t forget to spend your Found Belongings.

      • Allona: I’m still trying to find things I’m interested in purchasing

    • Prepare for the Fight.

      • “This is the big finale for Season One Living World stories. You can bet your butt that there will be some grand, epic fight that will put your through a challenge or two. Let us also consider the fact they have already said that we will be fighting, and who do you think we’re going to fight at the end? Scarlet. Make sure you have a character you are completely comfortable with in a tough fight, and preferably as best geared out as they can be. Also wouldn’t hurt to make sure you have good food consumables for the fight. Something tells me we are going to be pit up against some difficult fights in our attempt to retake Lion’s Arch.â€

    • Get Black Lion Keys.

      • “This is their big, grand finale and they are probably going to do all the biggest features they can think up.â€

    • Allona – Trauma flashbacks! This battle took FOREVER. Just added everything up: 392 foes, PLUS 11 bosses! (granted, there are 660 NPCs and your team of 8, but still, they were all spread out and junk.)

    • Celeste – I hope it feels as awesome when we complete this story as when I managed to finally beat that quest.

Tyrian Atlas

http://atlas.guildwars2.com/en/

  • really?!

  • just make a damn app already arenanet. This is bovine excrement.

    • Allona –  I still wistfully think of the app anet announced pre-beta that would allow you to check the online status of guildies and also take part in guild chat.

  • http://zoom.it/pKuy I find this map to be 10 times cooler.

    • Allona – I love this! I have been looking for a good GW1 location overlay.

  • Allona – This is an interesting step. I’m not 100% sure of the point though?

    • Celeste – A lot of people have been saying that this feels a bit premature. There’s not a lot going on here.

Glory Booster Gate

https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/pvp/pvp/March-18th-Glory-change-FAQ/first#post3688477

  • Q: Why aren’t people with glory boosters being compensated with different boosters or something along those lines?

  • A: We will not be converting glory boosters because we announced that we would be phasing out glory in John’s blog post and it wouldn’t be fair to the players that used up all of their boosters since then in preparation for it. However, players that spent gems to purchase glory boosters directly will be eligible for a refund. For those that did purchase them, they can file a ticket here.

  • Allona – No. The people who used them benefited by boosting their PvP Glory and thus their rewards! It would be completely fair to allow those who didn’t use the boosters to convert them to something else. I received my boosters as reward for achievements. Not letting me convert them is saying my achievements were worth less. If I hadn’t received the boosters, their spot in the chests would have been replaced by something else!

  • @ gw2lexy on Twitter also pointed out BL chests.

  • “And what of those who have boosters from Black Lion chests, etc but never PvP? – wouldn’t mind converting mine…â€

    • Allona – I would guess most people buy keys with gems. Can those people file tickets?

Dolyak Express: Characters and Relationships

https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/gw2/Dolyak-Express-Feb-10-2014/page/2#post3670792

  • Q: Are there relationships between races in Tyria? We know of Braham and Rox…but is such a thing more common or the rare exception? And is there a possibility for cross-species offspring?

    • Angel: That is up to each individual to roleplay. You will currently find no official cross-species NPC relationships in the game. Rox and Braham are good friends. That’s not to say we might not one day have one.

  • Q: Who were Taimi’s parents? What is Zojja’s role in Taimi’s education?

    • Bobby Stein: We intend to explore answers to both questions in future stories. Stay tuned.

      • Celeste: Wouldn’t it be cool if Taimi is really just leading us on and she’s really out for revenge against Scarlet for killing her parents in Thaumanova? Actually that doesn’t fit with Taimi’s character at all but it would’ve been interesting (I think). [Allona: Oooh!]

  • Q: Do you have plans, or would you consider, adding a prominent gay male couple to the world (not sectioned off into one sylvari personal story path), and additional prominent people of color (i.e. non-white human/norn) to the world?

    • Angel: Absolutely. But we’re not in any hurry to do it just to do it. We’ll do it when the story calls for it.

  • Q: What exactly was it that caused Sayeh al’Rajihd and Trahearne to join forces the first time they met?

    • Angel: We’re keeping this story in our pocket for potential future release.

      • Celeste: makes sense as we still haven’t dug into which regions/dragons we’ll be advancing towards (bubbles and the largos…)

  • Next Dolyak is Audio Production! https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/gw2/Dolyak-Express-Feb-21-2014/first#post3671011

Massively article (needs much catchier title than this, but what are ya gonna do?)

http://massively.joystiq.com/2014/02/25/the-final-battle-for-lions-arch-begins-in-guild-wars-2s-next-c/ – Anatoli Ingram

  • Feedback on the difficulty of citizen rescues in the current release led ArenaNet to reduce the number needed to receive the highest tier rewards; according to Johanson, the full event was intended to require roughly as much coordination as the Twisted Marionette encounter but ended up slightly overtuned.

    • Allona: I was 5 or 10 shy of getting max rewards (for the 1200 amount) one time. Haz sadz. (Glad they reduced it though!)

    • Celeste: I’ve gotten the max twice now and haven’t gotten anything special from it.

  • Not only is the Dominion of Winds firmly closed against both Scarlet’s troops and fleeing refugees, but they’re not taking any chances: Anything or anyone approaching the gate is quickly wiped out by a rain of arrows.

Understandably, this has caused some hurt feelings… Johanson acknowledged that this seemingly heartless move was in character for the Tengu… While their reaction to L.A.’s destruction may not be heroic, Johanson described it as realistic and added that player reactions to this development have been “really cool” to watch.

    • Allona: My feelings weren’t hurt. I love that — so far — they are maintaining the Tengu party line. It needs to be something REALLY BIG to get the Tengu out from their city. REALLY BIG! (You know, like a final battle … <wink>)

  • ArenaNet has launched a new website called the Living World Atlas to let players explore the lore of the living world, unlock media and even uncover story hints ahead of the next release.

    • Allona: Aha! Story hints! THAT’s the point! … maybe?’

    • Celeste – But as it stands, there’s hardly any spoilers. We know that the drill is a thing. We know we’re going to fight on/in it. The watchwork knight thing with the backpiece was new but that’s it.

Ask An Asuran

Another question from the ever inquisitive Misforawesome!

  • “I think it would be neat if after this event the airship drifted Tyria on some kind of schedule so you never know where you’ll end up.â€

  • Allona – How cool would it be if the Airship moved around Tyria patch to patch?!

Tales of Tyria

Hunter’s Insight has theoretical Scarlet insights

http://huntersinsight.com/2014/02/25/scarlet-theories/

  • “Okay so obviously, spoiler alert, the entity [Scarlet talks to] must be a dragon. Obviously. We know that powerful entities like the Pale Tree have a cognitive presence in the Eternal Alchemy and we already suspect that the Pale Tree is a dragon minion. So what other creatures could be found and confronted there but dragons?

And which dragon is this? I think the answer can be sussed out. Which dragon would have more of a connection with a sylvari than any other? The dragon that created the Pale Tree, the dragon of forests and jungles. Scarlet even mentions that “whispers come from the forestâ€. So in a word, Mordremoth.â€

    • Allona: He makes a good case for Mordremoth over Primordus here. What if — and this is crazy speculation, I know — Scarlet has not one, but two dragons talking to her. Both M and P, and she doesn’t know it? That would break anyone’s mind!

  • “Obviously there are some big spoilers floating around the ether, I’ve avoided them as best I can, but I’m sure some of this is already known to be wrong. But personally I think this is a lot more fun than already knowing the answers.â€

    • Allona: +1 from me. I’ve managed to avoid all info leaks so far. I love speculations! I would rather speculate and be totally wrong, than know for sure and ruin the reveal.
