It looks like the nation’s youth are no longer heeding the call to “wrap it up.”
According to the centers of disease control and prevention, more teens had babies between two-thousand-and-six and two-thousand-and-seven than in previous years. Young people also contracted S-T-Dâ??s, at a higher rate that had been recorded between 19-91 and two-thousand-and-five.
Researchers say the trends signal a possible end to the large decline of sex-related health issues among teens and young people in previous years, and that strides made in improving the status of their sexual and reproductive health has flat-lined or worsened in some instances.
Specifically, the new research shows the annual rate of aids diagnoses for boys fifteen to nineteen years has nearly doubled in the past ten years. Rates of syphilis are also up, and in two-thousand-and-six, nearly one million young people ages ten to twenty-four reportedly had chlamydia, gonorrhea or syphilis.
