Booked brings you a live Noir at the Bar reading from our recent visit to Corydon Indiana! Back on November 3rd, Livius and Robb drove from Chicago all the way to the Louisville KY area for a night of high-octane, high-volume (and in some cases, probably just high) stories from the Jed Ayres and Frank Bill camps in celebration of the recent release of the Noir at the Bar 2 anthology.

The night hosted eight total readers, over two hours total of reading. Because we’re not so sadistic, we decided to break up the reading into three episodes. the old 3/3/2.

In addition to a great reading, we picked up a ton of great books. Some signed print copies of Matthew McBride’s Frank Sinatra in a Blender, Noir at the Bar vol. 2, Jed Ayres’ F*ckload of Shorts, and the novella collection Uncle B’s Drive-In Fiction (with novellas by David James Keaton, CJ Edwards, Matt Funk, and more).

Hit the link below to listen in-browser, or download the episode and pray it’s not haunted!

David James Keaton kicks off this episode reading his story Burning Down Djs, a story that appears in much greater detail (as is usually the case with iterations of DJK stories) in his forthcoming collection of stories Fish Bites Cop. It’s all about revenge, fire, tazers, and evolution? You’ll get it when you hear it. DJK is the author of Zee Bee & Bee, and has appeared nearly everywhere it’s possible to submit a story, as he is very prolific. He’s also the creator guy at Flywheel Magazine. In addition to his prolific-ness, he has also been on Booked about three thousand times, and been hilarious each time.

CJ Edwards had the dubious honor of following David James Keaton. Fitting, as his day job is busting bad guys. Edwards too has been published everywhere good crime fic can be found – including Uncle B’s Drive-In Fiction alongside his crowd warmer Dave Keaton. CJ read his story Letting Go, a very gripping tale of an emergency call gone very bad.

That wraps up our three-part Noir at the Bar live reading series of episodes. If you haven’t listened to any of the others, go back and check them out. They’re stellar. Also, feel free to browse all of our live reading episodes. We have the February 28th Noir at the Bar event in Saint Louis, the Wrong Kind of Reading from AWP in Chicago, and the Shindig in Chi-Town which also took place in Chicago during AWP 2012.

Also, be sure to check out all of these authors and support them by buying their books either through their own websites or on Amazon. And please be sure to get your copy of Noir at the Bar vol. 2 over at Subterranean Books in St. Louis. It’s a great collection of stories for a great cause: supporting independent bookstores! Click the book cover below to go to Subterranean Books’ website.

Booked reviews TV Snorted My Brain by Bradley Sands. Sands is a Bizarro author that has been mentioned several times on the podcast, starting way back during our Warmed and Bound Sessions, and later on when we’ve talked about Bizarro, and when I was flying to LA and back, he was my in-flight...

Booked reviews The Fifty Year Sword by Mark Z Danielewski. While it’s not the scariest or bloodiest of Octobers, MZD does bring the creepy with his tale of a man searching for a weapon. We’ve talked up MZD in the past, throwing lots of praise at House of Leaves, now we take on his lates...
